As summer winds down and families prepare for students to return to school, there is still plenty of fun to be had when it comes to poetry, theater, and art!

Poetry Heals is pleased to announce a new collaboration with the local performance group, Dragon Theatre, which features performers and artist collaborators of all different abilities. This event came together when our previous project with the Fine Arts Center, Front Range Fables, was sadly cancelled this month.

However, disappointment led to innovation, and we are now overjoyed to announce our new event, “Everyone’s Got Talent! A Vaudeville Circus Performance!” This new collaboration will come to the Seven Minute Springs Gazebo in Manitou Springs on Saturday, August 27th, at 10:00 A.M. Dragon Theatre will be performing their play, and the performance will be followed by arts activities. Poetry Heals will hold creative writing workshops and writing games, Mark Wong of Wong Wares will host clay activities, and K8 Orr will lead visual art activities.

Like most of our events, this one is free and open to the public! It is also open to all ages, skill levels, and experience levels within our various artistic mediums. No registration required. Here is a description of the play to be performed by Dragon Theatre:

“The year is 1922. The 1918 pandemic has subsided, the first world war is over, theaters are reopening, and the Dragon Theatre Circus finds they no longer have a theatre, or props, or any of their old supplies to make the show go on. So they decide to share a little bit of the magic they have left to reinvent their new reality with the audience: imagination.

The show will be a mix of talents and pantomime performances as the vaudeville circus troop learns to use what they have and a lot of imagination to tell a fun story.”

This event is funded by the Manitou Springs Community Foundation and the Creative Alliance Manitou Springs.

We hope to see you all there for our sure-to-be-amazing event!
